The Carolina Hotel Built in 1901, the Carolina is one of America's Historic Hotels. This stately Victorian structure is the centerpiece of the resort and houses 210 guest rooms and 12 suites which have been completely renovated. The hotel features the Carolina Dining Room for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the Ryder Cup Lounge for lighter meals and cocktails. Pinehurst #1 Please note: Must be a guest of the Pinehurst Resort to play. This is where it all began. Even though Dr. Leroy Culver built the first rudimentary nine holes and John Dunn Tucker added the next nine, it is clearly Donald Ross' touch that can be seen on this first golf course. Don't let the short 6,128-yard par-70 fool you - it's more of a course than it first appears. Wild drives or a sloppy short game can make for a long day. As with any course bearing Ross' name, it is ultimately very playable without losing its challenge.
